Expectations for Blue Dolfin Parents:
We have prepared this short New Parent Guide to help you navigate the pool waters as a new swim team parent. Please familiarize yourself with it as well as the expectations below. We know you are busy but we do have a few expectations we ask all Blue Dolfins to abide by:
Support your child, your child's teammates, and your child's coaches in public and in private. You set the positive tone for your athlete.
Respect and support all athletes in the pool, regardless of team affiliation or sportsmanship (or lack thereof). We set the gold standard regardless of how other teams or competitors act.
Respect all swim meet officials and volunteers. They are donating their time to make this event happen for your child.
Trust that your coaches are acting in the best interest of your child and team.
Attend our team potluck dinners (held from time to time) as it is time we come together as a team to welcome new swimmers, talk with coaches, and meet other parents.
Bring any concerns to the attention of your child's coach as soon as possible to avoid small problems becoming big ones!
Volunteer whenever possible for meets the Blue Dolfins host. We need timers, concession stand sales, heat sheet sales, etc.
Optional Involvement for Parents:
Become an official. The sport of swimming rides on the shoulders of those parents who step up as volunteers, especially those who become certified as USA Swimming Officials.
All swim meets must have USA Swimming certified officials to oversee the swimmers in the water, to be sure each start, stroke, turn, and finish is done correctly. By becoming an official, you not only learn more about the sport and each stroke, but you also get the best seat in the house, poolside!
